The Genetic Counseling Skills Checklist (GCSC) was developed based on the FOCUS framework, data from interviews with practicing genetic counselors, and literature searches. The goal of the GCSC is to capture several of the skills that genetic counselors report using to achieve various session goals as well as skills that have shown promise in contributing to positive patient experiences or outcomes in other healthcare settings.
This measure requires training to ensure high interrater reliability before it is used and should only be used with permission from the developers.
